As a social entrepreneur, the primary mission is not profit. Profit is what drives the machine to keep going, but the ultimate mission is social. Our role is to try to inspire students to look at social enterprises, to think of business in a different way.

Eldpathy is an award-winning social enterprise and with a network of volunteers all working toward a common cause: understand and serve the elderly through experiential learning programmes and training workshops. Since launching in 2013, we have conducted over 1,000 simulation programmes to schools, youth centres, universities and corporations.

Eldpathy encourages participation in elderly philanthropy through experience programmes. The idea brought us the Champion of Hong Kong Social Enterprise Challenge and $140,000 as seed capital, as well as funding from the SIE Fund for scale up. Eldpathy continues to grow and the concept they promote is getting more popular among schools, NGOs and corporations. It also appeals to retirees who join as volunteers.

Eldpathy adopts the strategy of “experiential learning”. Having gained personal experience of the living of the poor elderly, youths participating in the programme will understand the need of the elderly and be mobilised to take part in community services like food support. Grassroots elders are hired to lead the above-mentioned activities, contribute to the society and interact with different sectors of the society. This helps prevent social exclusion.
